Communities We Work With
Working alongside those who need it most in Kolkata's underserved neighbourhoods.
Tiljala & Surrounding Areas, Kolkata
Our work is concentrated in Tiljala and surrounding low-income neighbourhoods in Kolkata, areas characterised by high population density, limited access to quality services, and communities with immense resilience and potential.
These are communities where many children attend school but struggle to learn, where families face overlapping pressures, and where local systems are often under-resourced. Our programs are designed to work within these realities, not around them.
Who We Work With
Children
Children aged 5–18 from low-income households, many of whom are first-generation learners.
Families
Parents and caregivers who are supported to create enabling environments for their children.
Schools & Educators
Local government and aided schools, teachers, and educators who partner with us on after-school and wellbeing programs.
NGOs & CBOs
Grassroots organisations and community-based groups that we strengthen through capacity building and collaboration.
Barriers Our Communities Face
Understanding the challenges helps us design programs that address root causes, not just symptoms.
Learning Gaps
Many children attend school but cannot read or write at grade level. Learning deficits accumulate over time without targeted support.
Emotional Stress
Children and families navigating poverty face heightened emotional stress, with limited access to mental health support.
Unstable Environments
Challenging home conditions, including overcrowding, economic pressure, and family instability, affect children's ability to focus and learn.
Dropout Risk
Without timely intervention, many children disengage from school, particularly at transition points like Class 7 to 8.
